Los Angeles Chargers Sign Veteran Offensive Tackle Alex Leatherwood

According to Adam Schefter, the Los Angeles Chargers have signed former Las Vegas Raiders' offensive tackle Alex Leatherwood. The Raiders drafted Leatherwood in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft. But he was surprisingly cut by the Raiders in 2022, which led to him signing with the Chicago Bears and then eventually playing on the Cleveland Browns' practice squad the following year.

Leatherwood was drafted by the Mike Mayock/Jon Gruden regime in Las Vegas, which has since been replaced. At the time of him being drafted, some NFL draft experts saw the pick as a bit of a reach. Since then, Leatherwood has struggled to live up to his first round draft status.

This offseason, the Chargers hired recent college football national champion head coach Jim Harbaugh to lead their franchise into the future. Harbaugh may think he can revitalize the once great offensive tackle. Before playing in the NFL, Leatherwood spent his college football days playing for national powerhouse Alabama and all-time great head coach Nick Saban. It will be interesting to see whether Harbaugh can revitalize Leatherwood's once promising career.
