Kansas City Chiefs Trade for New York Giant’s Wide Receiver Kadarius Toney - Are More New York Giants’ Trades Coming?
As per NFL.com, the New York Giants have traded wide receiver Kadarius Toney to the Kansas City Chiefs for a 2023 third-round compensatory pick and a 2023 sixth-round pick.
It is no shocker that the New York Giants were sellers of a wide receiver at the trade deadline given their extensive depth at the position. I would not be surprised if the New York Giants also trade either wide receiver Kenny Golladay or wide receiver Darius Slayton before the November 1st NFL trade deadline. Both wide receivers have been rumored to have been part of trade discussions spanning back to the beginning of the 2022 NFL season.
New York Giants wide receiver, Kenny Golladay has repeatedly voiced his frustration with the New York Giants coaching staff for his lack of playing time and on-field opportunities.
If I was a betting man, I would say the New York Giants are more likely to trade wide receiver Kenny Golladay than wide receiver Darius Slayton before the November 1st trade deadline. It seems the biggest obstacle to getting a trade done for Kenny Golladay is his current contract. In 2021, the New York Giants signed wide receiver Kenny Golladay to a 4-year $72,000,000 contract as per spotrac.com. With Kenny Golladay signed through the 2024 season, it will be difficult for the New York Giants to find a buyer for such a high contract averaging $18,000,000 per year in lieu of Kenny Golladay’s lack of production with the New York Giants. A team interested in trading for Kenny Golladay would certainly demand that the New York Giants eat a large portion of his contract and/or they may demand that Kenny Golladay restructure his deal.
Before joining the New York Giants, Kenny Golladay was a dominant wide receiver for the Detroit Lions.
I very much doubt that Kenny Golladay’s skills have disappeared. The New York Giants are now led by previous Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator, Brian Daboll, and he has had quite a bit of success this year leading the New York Giants. But before his arrival, the New York Giants have repeatedly been one of the worst managed NFL franchises in the league. Maybe tensions have boiled over and this is now leading to a lack of opportunity for Kenny Golladay who was truly an impact player for the Detroit Lions.
Either way as a football fan, I wish Kenny Golladay the best and hope he can find a team that maximizes his dominant wide receiver skillset.
