Last year, the Vikings finished the season with a 7-10 record with Kirk Cousins as their quarterback. During the season, Cousins suffered a season-ending injury, which eventually led to him leaving the Vikings during the offseason to join the Atlanta Falcons.
During free agency, the Vikings signed veteran backup quarterback Sam Darnold to a one-year deal worth $10 million. The Vikings will now have the luxury to ease McCarthy into the position as the franchise sees fit.
