Going into the draft, the Packers needed help at linebacker, safety, and offensive line. Packers' General Manager Brian Gutekunst knocked this draft out of the park by double or triple dipping multiple times to address his team's needs. Gutekunst drafted two linebackers in Texas A&M linebacker Edgerrin Cooper (the top rated linebacker in the draft) and Missouri linebacker Ty'Ron Hopper. Gutekunst then drafted three safeties in Georgia safety Javon Bullard, Oregon safety Evan Williams, and Oregon State safety Kitan Oladipo.
Gutekunst also took a flyer on Penn State cornerback Kalen King who was projected as a first round pick during last year's way too early mock drafts, but later suffered a tough season last year which significantly hurt his draft stock. To increase the protection of star quarterback Jordan Love, Gutekunst drafted Arizona offensive tackle Jordan Morgan, Duke center Jacob Monk (who can play all across the offensive line), and Georgia State offensive tackle Travis Glover. Gutekunst also drafted USC running back MarShawn Lloyd to complement veteran running back Josh Jacobs while he drafted Tulane quarterback Michael Pratt to compete for the second-string quarterback role.
In sum, the Packers had an amazing draft and truly added some day one potential starters in Jordan Morgan, Edgerrin Cooper, and Javon Bullard with Marshawn Lloyd, Kitan Oladipo, and Jacob Monk also in line to see significant playing time as rookies. The Packers are real Super Bowl contenders entering the 2024 season.
