The BBC's Cherylann Mollan is reporting that Google "will soon begin" manufacturing drones and Pixel 8 phones in India as part of a deal between Google and Foxconn according to BBC sources. Google originally announced its plans to manufacture its Pixel phones in India back on October 19th, 2023.

Mollan is also reporting that the Foxconn facility that will manufacture the Pixel 8 phones is located in Tamil Nadu, India, which is nearby an existing Foxconn facility that already manufactures Apple iPhones.

Yet again, another U.S. tech firm has wisely begun to diversify its overseas operations shifting some of those operations outside of China and to India instead. Google is not the first "big name" U.S. tech firm to move some of its operations to India. Apple began manufacturing in India back in 2017.

Many multinational firms are beginning to identify India as a manufacturing powerhouse, one that may eventually challenge China as the top manufacturer in the world. Fairly recently, India's total population surpassed China's. India still has a long road to reach China's level of manufacturing prowess, but if significant firms with deep pockets continue to move operations out of China and into India, this manufacturing showdown may get more interesting sooner rather than later.
