University of Nebraska Signs Ex-Carolina Panthers’ Head Coach Matt Rhule to Eight-Year Deal
The University of Nebraska announced that it signed former Carolina Panthers and Baylor University head coach, Matt Rhule, to an eight-year contract that will empower Matt Rhule to lead the Nebraska football program through 2030.

Matt Rhule was somewhat recently fired by the Carolina Panthers after his first stint in the NFL as a head coach. In Matt Rhule’s defense, during his time with the Carolina Panthers, the Carolina Panthers’ front office failed to provide him with a proven and consistent quarterback, sacking him with the likes of former Jets’ “hand-me-down” quarterback Sam Darnold, washed-up quarterback Cam Newton (who could literally barely throw at that point), and quarterback Baker Mayfield who was recovering from a serious injury he endured just a season before.
Was Matt Rhule the scapegoat in Carolina?
Does Matt Rhule have what it takes to bring Nebraska back to prominent college football circles?
Only time will tell, but if work history has anything to do with it, Matt Rhule did an excellent job leading the Baylor football program to prominence during his time in Waco, Texas turning around the program after the Art Briles scandal that had previously left the Baylor football program in complete disarray.
As a fan of the game and a person who appreciates “the grind,” I love watching dumpster fire college and professional football programs be resurrected back into something special, especially when said programs used to be considered one of college football’s elite, a title Nebraska has failed to recoup for almost two decades now. I wish Matt Rhule the best of luck in Nebraska.
